Continuous News and Weather for Acadiana

Eric Zernich

Dry Monday before better rain chances Tuesday & Wednesday

The nice weather from this weekend will continue into Monday with slightly below average temperatures in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Most of us stay dry again on Monday but with it being summer we can not rule out one or two stray pop-up showers during the afternoon.

Low rain chances next couple days

For the most part Acadiana dodged the rain and with a light northerly breeze temperatures were slightly below average today in the upper 80s.

With some dry air wrapping into Acadiana this evening lows should drop down into the lower 70s by Sunday morning.

A few isolated showers/storms Tuesday afternoon

Most of the showers have now pushed out into the Gulf of Mexico but thanks to the rain temperatures have been on the comfortable side setting up a pleasant evening.

However with the ground still quite damp from today’s rain there is a good possibility for patchy to dense fog Tuesday morning.

Scattered showers/storms Monday morning

The pop-up showers and storms that bubbled up this afternoon are fading as we move into the evening leading to another warm and muggy night.

Then during the overnight hours into Monday morning we will be watching a line of showers and storms diving south into Acadiana.

Stray shower possible Sunday; Better rain chances Monday

The summer heat and humidity continues Sunday with highs in the low 90s and feel like temperatures once again topping out between 103-107.

The only difference on Sunday is we will have a slight chance for a couple stray showers during the afternoon/evening, mainly north of the interstate.

High heat and humidity continues Saturday

Even with a fair amount of high clouds today preventing heat indices from getting as high as Thursday morning lows did not dip below 80 thus we had our 2nd straight heat advisory for Acadiana which continues until 7PM.

The clouds look to stay with us through the overnight hours which should keep lows near 80 again thus I think we will have another heat advisory on Saturday.

More high heat and humidity to end out the week

Locally, it will be another warm and sticky night with temperatures slow to cool off as lows struggle to drop down into the upper 70s.

However, for our neighbors to the north towards the I-20 corridor rounds of strong to severe storms will slide across from east Texas to Monroe this evening through the overnight hours.

Hot and sticky Father’s Day

The summerlike heat and humidity is back, and it looks like it will be sticking with us until about late September.

Pleasant weather continues through Thursday

Thank you June cool front as it felt amazing today.

If you were stuck at work all day make sure you get outside this evening to enjoy the pleasant temperatures and humidity.

Drier air brings lower humidity to Acadiana this week

Monday night into Tuesday morning a rare, June “cool” front will push drier and slightly cooler air into Acadiana leading to a few pleasant days this week.

Behind the front on Tuesday highs will be below average in the mid 80s and with dew points in the lower 60s making it will feel really comfortable to be outside.

Spring cool front to bring drier air to Acadiana this week

The heat is going to hang on for one more day to start the work week with highs Monday afternoon topping out in the low to mid 90s.

But during the afternoon a cool front will be working through Acadiana which could spark off a couple isolated showers but rain chances only look to be about 20% or less.

Great pool weather on Sunday

The heat continues Sunday with highs in the mid 90s but thanks to a northwesterly flow again the humidity won’t be too bad making it a perfect day to enjoy the pool.

With the approach of a tropical disturbance the next few days winds will increase out of the south pushing Gulf water onshore.

Thus, a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for Calcaseiu, Cameron, Iberia, St. Mary and Vermilion parishes from 1 AM Wednesday until 1 PM on Friday.

This year it will be a gradual release of water through the spillway.

How did the Mississippi River get so high this Spring

As we prepare for the opening of the Morganza Spillway this Sunday here is a review of the last few months to figure why there is so much water in the Mississippi River this year.

Here is a look at the river levels for the Mississippi at Baton Rouge since the start of 2019.

Stray showers Tuesday; better rain chances towards the end of the week

On Tuesday the ridge of high pressure to our east will slide a little closer to Acadiana helping to increase the sea breeze off the Gulf with winds picking up to about 10-15 mph.

That sea breeze will provide just enough lift in the atmosphere to get a couple isolated showers to fire up throughout Acadiana, especially during the late morning and early afternoon hours.

More Summer-like heat and humidity

With the upper level ridge entrenched over the southeast we will continue to see more hot and humid conditions this Memorial Day weekend.

Scattered storms likely Sunday morning

Late tonight into Sunday morning the tail end of the line of storms will try to work across Acadiana producing scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Timing for these storms will start about 4 am for our northwestern parishes, reach Lafayette between 7-8 am before clearing St. Mary parish about noon.

Scattered showers to return this weekend

What more can you say about the weather this week then absolutely perfect and it will continue Thursday and Friday.

Highs on Thursday might even be a degree lower at about 87-88 as winds turn a little more southerly creating a sea breeze off the Gulf.

Beautiful start to the work week

High pressure will slide over the region Monday creating an absolutely fantastic day with mostly sunny skies and seasonal temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
