LAFAYETTE–The 15th Judicial District will have a new district attorney come January 2021.
Keith Stutes, who has served as the district attorney for Lafayette, Vermilion, and Acadia Parishes since 2015, says he will retire at the end of his term and will not seek reelection. The Advocate first reported the story.
Stutes ran for and won the post in 2014, unseating his former boss Mike Harson. Before assuming the D. A.’s post, Stutes worked under former district attorneys Harson and Nathan Stansbury as an assistant district attorney for 28 years.
The election for the district attorney’s post is set for November 2020. A runoff, if necessary, would happen the following month.
