Fourth of July events in Acadiana

The Fourth of July will be celebrated in a variety of ways across Acadiana this year.
Here are some of the events:
In Downtown Erath, the fun starts today at 6 p.m. when the midway opens. There also will be a DJ playing music. 
Here’s the rest of the schedule. No ice chests, outside food or beverages, or pets are allowed on the festival grounds.

Several events are planned for July 3:

The Jennings Stars and Stripes Festival will be from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. at Louisiana Oil and Gas Park. There will be live music and a fireworks show at 9 p.m. Admission is $4 for people 13 years and older. Ice chests are welcome, bring your own lawn chairs.

Uncle Sam’s Jam will be from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. in Parc International in Downtown Lafayette. There will be free music, food and beverages for sale. No ice chests. Admission is free.

Fireworks at the Pond begins at 5:30 p.m. at Sugar Mill Pond in Youngsville. There will be live music and free activities for kids. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. and admission is free.

On July 4th, there are several events:

In Eunice, the fireworks start at 9 p.m. at the Eunice Recreation Complex on Sittig Street.

Loureauville is planning its first July 4th event, with fireworks and other activities at Loreauville Park. It starts at 5 p.m., and people are encouraged to bring their barbecue pits, picnic baskets, snacks and ice chests to the event. Snow balls will be available for purchase, but the first 100 people under age 13 who show up get a free one. The fireworks start at 8 p.m.

In Breaux Bridge, St. Bernard Church hosts a patriotic event, starting at 6 p.m. with a rosary at the church. At 6:45 p.m. there will be an honor guard and performance of the National Anthem outside the church, followed by music at 7 p.m. by the Vermilionaires at Parc du Pont. Fireworks start at 9 p.m.

In Crowley, Orlando Thomas Day will be celebrated on the Fourth. The event will be held at the MLK Building on West Hutchinson Street from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. There will be a health fair where you can check your blood pressure and blood sugar levels. There will be games including skating, bingo, board games and basketball, and music from a band and a DJ. A brown bag lunch of hamburgers or hot dogs will be served at noon, and there’s a parade rolling at 1 p.m. as long as the weather cooperates. The event is the sixth one held to remember Orlando Thomas, a Crowley native who played for UL and in the NFL. He died of Lou Gerhig’s disease in 2014 at the age of 42.

In New Iberia, the annual Fourth of July Parade rolls at 2 p.m. It starts at Prairie Street and ends at Bouligny Plaza. The events start at 12:30 p.m. with a youth bicycle decorating contest; kids with parents along can ride in the parade for free. Prizes will be awarded. During the day there will be food trucks and music.

In Krotz Springs, there will be a Fireworks on the River event starting at 6:30 p.m. at Nall Park. Guest are welcome to bring ice chests, lawn chairs, and picnic blankets. There will be music, fun jumps and food. Fireworks start at 9 p.m.
