Today, KATC and the Tools for Schools team were in Eunice to visit East Elementary.
KATC’s Tools for Schools is brought to our children by Jim Olivier’s Family of Companies. Today, the team brought Chromebooks to Danielle Daigle’s third grade class.
“You brought us Chromebooks. It’s going to help us out, ’cause we can research and learn more things,” one student said.
“I requested Chromebooks because we are really pushing technology into the curriculum in science and social studies,” Daigle said. “We’re trying to focus on the students becoming more independent, so being able to do research in the classroom and work together in groups and really focus on being student centered is where we’re trying to go.”
Daigle said they’re teaching students to use technology in collecting data and research, but without the tools in the classroom they are very limited to what they can do.
“My students would benefit by being able to work cooperatively and collaboratively in groups, learning to be productive citizens later in life. These life-skills are necessary in today’s world. Teaching them at a young age will only help them become more successful in their academics as they go though each year of school,” Daigle wrote in her submission.
